My form of escapism

Hello everyone!

Have you ever felt so stressed that your brain can't handle any more, and you start to have a meltdown? I know, a bit of a heavy question for the first line of a blog post. But there's a point to it. I've been guilty of not taking enough care over my mental health over the years, which can sometimes leave me pretty vulnerable to stress. So, this one's about how I've learned to handle that stress. We all deal with stress in our everyday lives; whether that be having to work three jobs, dealing with school/university projects, family, or whatever it is that stresses you out.

I'm coping with the things that stress me out, because I have a good support system and a personal form of escapism. I like to lose myself in the moment; throwing myself into jokes with friends, getting caught up in the stories of my favourite Stephen King novels, focussing on preparing and cooking the tastiest meal for myself, and of course, in music. Now, the most expected and cliche next sentence right now is for me to start talking about playing music. That's not quite right. I'm not talking about playing or writing music. No, I'm talking about listening to it.

And I know you can identify with this one. I've never met anybody who doesn't like music. Everybody has a favourite band. And that's the key, I think. Take time for yourself to completely immerse yourself in your favourite music. Get lost in your headphones, or achieve a great mix on your monitors, and just sit there and soak it up. Turn your phone off, close your eyes, and just listen.

There's one EP that never fails to put a smile on my face:

Whatever yours is, are you taking enough time to put everything else aside, and just listen?
